Obituary for Robert Todd "Rob" Hill

Robert “Rob” Todd Hill passed away unexpectedly in his home in Ironwood Township on the morning of May 5, 2022, after a long battle with cardiovascular disease. He had spent time with family and his children in the days preceding his passing.

Robert was born on in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Vernon and Pearl (Mayo) Hill. He spent much of his childhood enjoying his family’s home in Ironwood, Michigan. He loved the beautiful country of the Upper Peninsula and decided to attend college there after graduating from Niles West High School in Illinois. He attended Gogebic Community College and then Northern Michigan University, where he completed his art degree focusing on sculpture, photography, and videography.

Robert got married and had four children who he loved with his whole heart. The pride and joy of his life, and his self-proclaimed greatest accomplishments, were his eldest son Maxwell, his twins Mia and Micah, and his baby girl Mirielle.

Robert was an animal lover and had many beloved pets throughout his life. He enjoyed listening to and creating music, performing comedy and humor, critiquing films and art, painting and sculpting, gardening and landscaping, watching and playing sports, building and designing do-it-yourself projects, fishing, and learning about the world through travel, documentaries, and literature. He was a poet, an avid reader, and a student of philosophy. Robert enjoyed life and though he struggled with his mental health for many years, he always maintained that all people should be treated with kindness.

Robert leaves behind his mother, Pearl Hill; brothers and sisters, Yvonne, Richard, Susan, Jeffrey, and Elisabeth; children, Maxwell, Mia, Micah, and Mirielle; and many nieces, and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Robert will be laid to rest beside his father in Ironwood, Michigan at a private ceremony on June 3, 2022. A family gathering to celebrate Rob’s life will take place on June 5, 2022, in Wakefield, Michigan. Robert will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
