Obituary for Robert "Bob" Secor

Robert L. “Bob” Secor, 88, of Hurley, passed away Monday morning, March 2, 2020, at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley, Wisconsin surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born March 5, 1931, in Hurley, son of Matt and Etha (Ryan) Secor. He attended J. E. Murphy High School in Hurley and graduated in 1949 and then went to Gogebic Community College in Ironwood where he graduated with a paramedic and small engine repair degree. He was a member of the National Guard. Bob served his community as a fireman for the Hurley Fire Department for 43 years and was the fire chief for his last few years, retiring in 1994. His main career was selling ads for the Iron County Miner and the Ironwood Daily Globe and became part-owner of the Iron County Miner. He retired in 1998.

He married the love of his life, Vivian Lindquist on August 16, 1952, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, Michigan; and they were married for 50 wonderful years. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2003.

Bob was an avid fisherman his entire life, and he also loved to go bird and deer hunting with his son and friends on Birch Hill. He also loved spending time with his two granddaughters and his one great-granddaughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Etha Secor; wife, Vivian; six brothers; and five sisters.

Bob is survived by his son, Bobby (Christine) Secor of Hurley; daughter, Tina Secor of Hurley; two granddaughters, Rochelle Robinson (Jim Clark) of Redgranite and Katie (Jordan) Nerison of McVille, North Dakota; one great-granddaughter, Madalynn Clark of Redgranite; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service, committal and interment will be held in the spring at the Hurley Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration, Caring, Avanti Home Care, Sky View Nursing Home, Villa Maria Nursing Home, and Aspirus Ironwood and Wausau Hospitals for the great care they gave our father and grandfather. Your compassion will always be remembered.
