Obituary for Richard J. Carlson

Richard J. Carlson, 61, of
Ironwood, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010.      Born in Ironwood on Nov. 19, 1949, he was the
son of the late John T. (Ted) Carlson and Mildred A. (Dolly) Carlson. Rick
graduated from L.L. Wright High School and later attended Gogebic Community
College and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. A tragic accident  in 1971
left Rick permanently disabled, a detail he chose to ignore. Rick was truly a
special person, whose independence, strength, kindness, generosity and
selflessness were traits loved and admired by all who knew him. He will be
deeply missed.      Rick is survived by his brothers William
(Susan) Carlson, Bellevue, Wash.; John (Shelley) Carlson, Washington, D.C.;
Robert (Deb) Carlson, Appleton, Wis.; three nephews and many dear
friends.      Cremation has taken place.      A memorial gathering will be held in Ironwood
at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 3:00-5:00
p.m.      In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the charity of your choice.      Online condolences may be expressed to the
