Obituary for Paul D. Kangas

Paul Delano Kangas, 73, of Ironwood passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on November 5, 2019, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.       He was born in Ironwood on November 15, 1945, the son of John and Laina (Sipponen) Kangas.  He attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School.      Paul joined the U.S. Army and served stateside during the Vietnam War.      He worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a technician for several years.      Paul was an avid traveler, visiting many states. He was known as the “Quarterman” around Ironwood and “Unc” to family.  Paul enjoyed watching football, always rooting for the Detroit Lions.  He had a delightful sense of humor. Always laughing with a twinkle in his eye. He was a true gentle soul who touched everyone he came in contact with.      He is survived by his sisters, Jane (Thomas) Goldsworthy of Wausau, Wis. and Julianna Leiphart of Ironwood; sister-in-law, Nancy Kangas; and nieces and nephews, Paul, Joan, Karen, Linda  Adam, Anna, Andrew, Amanda, and Aleen.      Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Kangas; niece, Ruth Kangas; and brother-in-law, Steven Leiphart.      Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held.      Inurnment will be at the Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township, Michigan.      Special thanks to the staff of the Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their excellent love and care.      McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Ironwood, is assisting the family.  For more information or to express online condolences, please visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com .
