Obituary for Mary Luella "Lou" Semo

Mary Luella “Lou” Semo, 94, of Ironwood passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 13, 1927, in Ironwood, the daughter of Celestin “Lefty” and Margaret “Peg” (Ryan) Trier. She grew up in Hurley, Wisconsin and attended local schools, and graduated from Lincoln High School.

Mary Lou married Joseph R. Semo on April 30, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Fr. Michael A. Prock in Hurley Wisconsin. They made their home in Ironwood and raised seven children. She loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Joe preceded her in death on September 27, 2009.

She worked various jobs throughout her life and retired from Davey’s Motel.

She loved to play bingo, rummy, crocheting slippers and sweaters, cooking (especially pasties), chocolate, coffee, fishing, and camping. As a child, she also loved skating and climbing a tree at her home on 1st Avenue in Hurley. She hated long car rides, and trips to Mercer or Little Girl’s Point were too long.
