Obituary for Mary H. "Mimi" Maccani

Mary H. “Mimi” Maccani, 97 of Bessemer, Michigan passed away on February 2, 2021, at the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau with her children by her side.

Mary was born on July 28, 1923, in Benoit, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Matilda (Petrovich) Grubisic. She attended Benoit schools, DePadua Catholic School in Ashland, graduating in 1944, she attended Superior State and graduated from Northland College in Ashland with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She then attended the University of Minnesota to study to be a medical technologist.

She served her country in the Navy. After being honorably discharged, she was employed at the Divine Infant Hospital in Wakefield, Michigan in the laboratory as a medical technologist.

Mary married Bernard Maccani on June 1, 1954, and they were married for 66 years. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2012.

She enjoyed being outdoors and loved flowers and gardening. She loved crafts, artwork, drawing, painting, and golf, but she particularly loved her family. She was a member of Eagle Bluff Golf Club in Hurley and was the first woman to get a hole in one. She was also a member of St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Bessemer.

Mary is survived by her son, John “Jay” (Roxanne) Maccani of Green Bay; daughter, Michele (Roy) Brunelle of Bessemer; grandsons, Erik (Heidi), Travis (Meg), Christian (Jourdyn) and Sean; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Matilda Grubisic; her husband, Bernard; her grandson, Christopher; brothers, John (Rosemary), Ignatius “I.G.”, Gerald (Bertha), Victor (Mary) and Tony Grubisic; and sister, Eve Grubisic.

A private Mass will be held.
