Obituary for Margaret A. Coleman

Margaret A. Coleman, 97, of
209 E. Ridge St., Ironwood, passed away Friday, July, 1, 2011, in
Ironwood.      The former Margaret Hanson was born Feb. 24,
1914, in Rhinelander, Wis., daughter of the late Henry and Una (Jennings)
Hanson, and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1931. She then graduated
from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Social Work in 1935.     She was employed in St. Paul at Golden Rule
Department Store as a clerk and Ramsay County Welfare Department as a social
worker, and also as a sales clerk at the O'Donnell Style Shop and Paul's Women's
Wear in downtown Ironwood.      Margaret was married to Albert H. Coleman Jr.
on July 26, 1941 at the First Methodist Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Hedley
Bennet. Albert preceded her in death on June 7, 1970.      She was a member of Wesley United Methodist
Church in Ironwood, the Sarah Circle and Women's Society for 70 years. In the
1950's, Margaret served as president of the Sleight PTA and Ironwood PTA
Council. Her hobbies included playing bridge, knitting, working crossword
puzzles and reading.      Surviving are her children, David R. Coleman
and Bonnie (John) Thayer; five grandchildren, Lynn Coleman, Kevin (Andrea)
Coleman, Jennifer (Brian) Goodman, Melissa Thayer, and Meghan Thayer; two
great-grandsons, Michael Goodman and Steven Goodman; brother-in-law, James
(Delores) Coleman; several nieces and nephews; and cousins, Ray and Maurice
Hanson.      Besides her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by a brother, Russell Hanson, in Oct., 1948; a sister, Hazel
Hanson Schultz, in Dec., 2000; father-in-law, Albert H. Coleman Sr.;
mother-in-law, Lucinda Gregory Coleman; and sister-in-laws, Ruth Coleman Lund
and Jean Coleman Thiede.      As per Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken
place      A memorial service will be held at Wesley
United Methodist Church in Ironwood Wednesday, July 6, at 1 p.m. The Rev.
Rosemary DeHut will officiate.      Margaret's family will receive relatives and
friends at the church from noon until the time of service.      Committal and inurnment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood.      Coffee and cake will be served in the church
fellowship immediately upon return from the cemetery.      Memorials may be made to the Wesley United
Methodist Church Stain Glass Window Fund, 500 E. McLeod Ave., Ironwood, Mich.
