Obituary for Lily R. King

Lily R. King, 87, of
Plover, and formerly of Ironwood, Mich., died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at St.
Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.      Lily was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Ironwood,
daughter of the late Albert and Selma (Oman) Parent. She attended local schools
and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1941.      She was employed as a waitress at the
Wigwam and as a sales clerk at O'Donnell's Style Shop in Ironwood, and worked at
the Santini Gift Shop in downtown Ironwood for many years.      Lily was a member of Our Lady of Peace
Catholic Church in Ironwood, and a life member and past treasurer of the
Auxiliary to Ironwood American Legion Post 5. She enjoyed reading and going to
the casino, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.      On June 3, 1942, she was married to William T.
King at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Fr. Coglan. William
preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1985.      Survivors include two sons, Bill (Carleen),
Plover, and Jim (Patty), Ironwood; a daughter, Sally (Gregg) Peterson, Eagle
River; seven grandchildren, Scott (Peggy) King, Plover, Allan (Patti) King, Fond
du Lac, Kristie King-Freyre (Chad), Chelsea, Mich., Steve (Kristen) King,
Marquette, Mich., Renee (Dan) Cowart, Appleton, Paul (Karalyn) Peterson, Stevens
Point, and Lisa (Brian) Gajafsky, Slinger; 14 great-grandchildren; and a niece
and two nephews, JoAnne, Bob and Jim Christenson.      Besides her parents and husband, Lily was
preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Christenson, in 2007.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Thursday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood,
with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will be held in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish
hall.      Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Ironwood.      Friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room
at the church one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday.      Pallbearers will be Bill, Jim, Scott, Allan
and Steve King and Paul Peterson.      Lily's obituary may be viewed online, and
