Obituary for Kenneth L. Lindquist

Ironwood, MI-Kenneth L. Lindquist, 96, of Ironwood, died peacefully on Saturday, June 25th, 2022, in the company of his loved ones.

He was born January 25th, 1926, in Ironwood, MI, son of Leonard and Lempi (Mary) Lindquist, and graduated from Hurley High School in 1944. He served honorably in the Army Air Corps from April 1944 to November 1945 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. On June 18th, 1949, Ken married the former Mae Pearson and enjoyed their loving partnership until her death on May 11th, 2011.

Ken trained as an electrician and was a member of IBEW and NECA. He purchased Pete’s Electric in Hurley, WI, in 1966 and celebrated the grand opening of Lindquist Electric on US2 in Ironwood on April 13th, 1971. After decades of building their business and reputation in the community, he passed ownership to his son, Brian Lindquist, and slowly eased into retirement.

He especially loved being with his family at the cottage he built on Little Star Lake in Manitowish Waters, WI. He enjoyed fishing and waterskiing when he wasn’t working on projects there. A skilled water skier, he was known for effortlessly taking off and landing on the dock without getting wet. Ken and his wife, Mae, loved to travel, dance, and host loved ones for memorable gatherings and delicious meals at their beloved cottage. Ken was a great dance partner and loved listening to polka music until his last breaths.

Ken is survived by his daughter, Sue (Terry) Nelmark, Duluth, MN; daughter-in-law, Marie Lindquist, Ironwood; four grandchildren, Eric (Jenni) Nelmark, Glen Ellyn, IL; Melissa (Al) Hanson, Amery, WI; Monica (Alex) Zak, Ironwood, and Krista Lindquist (Kevin Couch) Manitowish Waters, WI; two great-granddaughters, Jaelyn Lindquist and Madeline Zak; nephews Ron (Jennie) Wietzke, Christchurch, New Zealand, and Steve (Carrie) Forslund, Mountain Iron, MN; nieces Sandy (Bill) Lee, Rockport, MA, and Donna (Dennis) Horrigan, Franklin, WI; and several other nieces and nephews.
