Obituary for June Ann Nelson

June Ann Nelson, 80, of
Ashland, passed away on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011.      The former June Sutherland was born July 12,
1931, in Morse, Wis., daughter of the late Turi and Pearl (Parrett) Sutherland.
She was one of ten children in the family.      She attended grade school in both Morse and
Land O'Lakes,  Wis., and graduated salutatorian from Mercer High School, Mercer,
Wis. in 1948. She attended St. Alexis School of Nursing, Bismark, N.D. and Mercy
School of Nursing, Valley City, N.D., where she received her registered nursing
degree.      June was a very dedicated nurse and worked at
various hospitals in Valley City, San Francisco and San Luis obispo, Calif., and
retired from Marin County Health Department, San Rafael, Calif.      June was a very loving and devoted wife,
daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She was very adventurous and
fun-loving and enjoyed playing cards, sports and nature as well as the
arts-music, theater and paintings. She took a great interest in politics and
world affairs. She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in
Ashland.      She was married to Erling (Bob) Nelson on
March 30, 1953, in Valley City, N.D. They lived in California for many years and
later retired to Ashland, Ore. June and Bob were an especially devoted couple
and enjoyed working together in their beautiful flower gardens, golfing,
traveling, reading, and most of all, spending time with family.      June touched many lives with her humor,
compassion and generosity, and will be dearly missed by all who knew
her.      Surviving are her husband, Erling (Bob),
Ashland, Ore.; two brothers, Ronald Sutherland, Othello, Wash., and Russell
Sutherland, Mercer; three sisters, Lorraine Hall, Elaine Mears and Marjorie
Petzel, all of Mercer; sister-in-law, Vera Potratz, Rock Island, Ill.; and
numerous nieces, nephews and friends, as well as her special little dog,
Max.       Besides her parents, June was preceded in
death by two brothers, Vernon and Claude Sutherland; and two sisters, Harriet
Clapero and Rosemary Mutanen.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Isaac
Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, with the Rev. Lourdu Mandapati,
celebrant.      Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow in
the Mercer Cemetery.      A luncheon will be served in the parish hall
immediately upon return from the cemetery.      June's obituary can be viewed online and
