Obituary for Jerry Lee Roberts
Jerry Lee Roberts, 81, long-time Mercer resident, died from congestive heart failure on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Aspirus Hospital Ironwood, with his wife by his side.
Jerry was born January 9, 1940, in Cook County Illinois, son of the late James Stewart and Josie (Lambert) Roberts.
He served his country in the Navy from 1958 to 1964. He was united in marriage to Opal Craig on November 13, 1965, in Will County Illinois. They resided in Frankfort Illinois until moving to Mercer in 1980 where they operated the restaurant at Lake Bastine Resort until 1983. Jerry had various occupations as road foreman, truck driver, carpenter, and restaurant operator. His favorite job in later years was as a Mercer recycling attendant. His favorite pastime was playing Combo Canasta with family and friends.
Surviving is his wife, Opal; son, Gregory (Beverly) Roberts of Gulf Breeze Florida; grandson, Adam Roberts of Huntsville Alabama; great-grandchildren, Molly and Jayden Roberts; sisters, Barbara Coffman of Watseka Illinois, Sandra Sue Glen of Buckeye Arizona, and Vicki Spry of Bourbonnais Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, James and Jack Roberts; sister, Pam White; and sisters-in-law, Faye Craig and Ruth Strickland.
According to his wishes, Jerry was cremated.
Services will be held at a later date.
