Obituary for Jean E Frandy

Jean Evelyn Frandy (Erickson), 71, of Manitowish Waters, WI passed away at University Hospital in Madison, WI on the afternoon of July 28, 2016, surrounded by her beloved family, after a five year battle with a debilitating illness. While at the hospital she received a continuous flow of visits by family and friends as well as many phone calls, and even Skype calls, from as far away as Spain, Qatar, Ecuador, and Germany. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with majors in music and drama Jean married Air Force Lieutenant, and fellow UW alum, James Frandy in 1965 and traveled to military bases in Florida, Colorado, California, Nebraska, and Washington, DC. In 1969 they established a home in Manitowish Waters and became active members of the community. As an active member of the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church she sang and directed the choir for many years, as well as teaching the young children in Sunday lessons. Jean loved to sing with the Pine Tones, and was the group''s director for several years, forming lifelong friendships. She also joined the local Lioness Club and enjoyed the camaraderie and compassion the ladies shared with her. The Frank B. Koller Memorial Library staff called Jean one of their best "customers" as she was often seen checking out armloads of books for herself and her grandchildren. Jean''s greatest joy in life came from her children and grandchildren reading, playing her piano and ukulele, and singing. There are a few characteristics that always come to mind as we think about Jean and her lifeloving, forgiving, compassionate, forever optimistic, bun maker, cookie baker, courageous and brave. She was even called the "Energizer Bunny" because of her will to live, in service of others, and keep going, and going, and going. Jean enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures with friends, family, and even on her own. She visited numerous cities and states across the US, and some of her foreign travel included trips to The Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany, Canada, Mexico and Ecuador. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Vivian Erickson (Wang) and her brother Richard. She is survived by her son, David (Lori) and Daughter, Ellen (Clint Eades Sr.), both of Manitowish Waters, grandchildren Wyatt Frandy of Eau Claire, WI, Skylar and Morgan Frandy, Ariana, Chase, Kaia, and Ella La Barge of Manitowish Waters and her sister Ann (Bill) Bayer of Mercer, WI and eight nieces and nephews. Family condolences may be sent to David or Ellen Frandy in Manitowish Waters, or online at www.rangefuneralservices.com. There are many people, too numerous to list, that deserve a special thanks. Thank you to the grocery shoppers, snow plowers, housekeepers, appointment drivers, medicine mixers and visitors who helped Jean out for many years. Also, a heart-felt thanks to all the doctors and staff at Marshfield Clinic, Howard Young Medical Center, and University Hospital; and to Reverend Chips Paulson who gave Jean the special courage to face the future. A celebration of Jean''s life will be held at the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 12th. Visitation will start at 10am with service at 11am and luncheon and fellowship to follow. Arrangements are being provided by Range Funeral Services, Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood, MI.
