Obituary for James Edward "Mak" Makinen

James Edward "Mak" Makinen,
63, of 515 E. Vaughn St., Apt. 350, Ironwood, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2010,
at home, with his family by his side, following a brave battle with
cancer.      He was born May 27, 1947, in Detroit, son of
Margarite (Fontecchio) and the late Tauno "Slick" Makinen.      He attended Ironwood schools, worked as a
carpenter and tradesman, and prior to his retirement, his dedication was to the
tenants at Pioneer Park apartments. Jim continued to express his willingness and
passion to give in any area up until the time of his passing.      He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending
much of his free time with his children and grandchildren in his beautiful
hometown of Ironwood. Not a sun set without Jim expressing the beauty and
appreciation of nature around him; being surrounded by family and friends at his
camp in the woods was a favorite time for him.      Jimmy Mak will truly be missed by
many. His smile and giving ways will always be remembered and respected by his
family and friends.      Jim was united in marriage to Janice Kaseno on
April 14, 1965, in Ironwood.      Surviving are his wife, Janice, of 45 years;
mother, Marge Makinen, Ironwood; children, Lisa (John) Ursini, Ironwood, and
Richard (Amy) Makinen, Osceola, Wis.; his dedicated sister, Janice (Russ)
Anderson, and special sister-in-law, Renee (Kaseno) Doney, both of
Ironwood; eleven grandchildren, James Collura, Justin Jarvi, Ashley Jarvi,
Preston Nasi, Nathan Makinen, Raquelle Makinen, Brandon King, Taylor Makinen,
Kaylee Makinen, Peyton Makinen and Mitchell Makinen; and numerous nieces and
nephews. Friends too numerous to mention, Jim thought of each as his family
members and talked about them often.      He was preceded in death by his highly
respected father, Tauno "Slick" Makinen, on June 8, 2003.      Out of respect for Jim's wishes, cremation has
taken place.      Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until
the memorial service at 3 p.m., on Friday Dec 10, at the McKevitt-Patrick
Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Revs. Chips Paulson and
Darryl Pepin co-officiating.      Rite of Committal will take place at the
funeral home, with luncheon to follow at Manny's in Ironwood.      Spring inurnment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood.      To view Jim's obituary online, sign the

Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.      A huge thank you goes out to the incredible
staff of Hospice. Without hesitation, they went out of their way to treat our
father with care and respect. The family is immensely grateful.
