Obituary for Ida L. Alonen

Ida L. Alonen, 88, of 413
Kennedy St. Ironwood, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, in Ironwood, following a
brief illness.      The former Ida L. Canalia was born Feb. 18,
1922, in Erwin Township, Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Theresa
(Brunello) Canalia. She attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L.
Wright High School in 1940.       She was married to Edward C. Alonen on Sept.
27, 1947, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Msgr. J.B.
Moriarity.      Ida was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood. She was an excellent cook and loved to dance, play cards,
and go to the casino.      Surviving are her husband, Edward, of 63
years; five children, Pat (David) Erickson, John (Patty) Alonen, and Rick
(Debbie) Alonen, all of Ironwood, and Edrye (Jim) Harma and Eddie (Carol)
Alonen, both of Kimball, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Dave Erickson, Ironwood,
Brian Erickson, Forest Lake, Minn., Paul (Michele) Harma and Mike (Kandie)
Harma, both of Kimball, Jason, Linda, Tiffany and Travis Alonen, all of
Ironwood, and Ashley Alonen, Kimball; six great-grandchildren, Eli, Olivia, Ari,
Amelia, Jayme and Josh; two sisters, Irma Thomas, Ironwood, and Katherine
Canalia, Alameda, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents, Ida was preceded in death
by two brothers, Leno and Louis Canalia.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Tuesday, Nov. 9, at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with
the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish
hall.      Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Ironwood.      Relatives and friends may call in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church from 11 a.m. until noon on
Tuesday.      Pallbearers will be Paul and Mike Harma, Dave
