Obituary for Geraldine M. "Geri" Trcka

Geraldine M."Geri" Trcka, 81,
of  600 6th Ave. No., Hurley, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at St. Mary's
Medical Center in Duluth.      The former Geraldine Richie was born Sept. 17,
1930, in Hurley, son of the late James and Nancy (Mattioli) Richie, attended St.
Mary's Grade School, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1948. She
then attended the College of St. Scholastica School of Nursing in Duluth,
receiving her degree as a registered nurse in 1951.      Geri was employed at Grand View Hospital and
the Dr. Florian Santini medical office in Ironwood, as director of nursing at
Sky View Nursing Center in Hurley, and at the Iron Co. Clinic. She was an
instrumental organizer of Villa Home Health in Hurley and retired as its
director.      A faithful and active member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Hurley, Geri served as Eucharistic Minister, cantor
and reader, taught religious education, was a member of the choir, organized the
Worship Angels, served on the Liturgy committee and the church decorating
committee, conducted communion services, and was the church nurse, making home
visits and performing blood pressure screenings. She also served as local
chapter chairman of Ducks Unlimited for many years.      Geri always kept active and loved following
her kids and grandkids in all of their sporting endeavors. She also enjoyed arts
and crafts and loved having rummage sales.      On Aug. 10, 1953, she was married to Francis
J. Trcka at St. Mary's Church by the late Msgr. Michael Prock. Francis preceded
her in death on Nov. 18, 1986.      Surviving are four sons, Francis (Debra),
Sheboygan, Wis., Gerard (Mary) and Bill (Gaye), both of Hurley, and James
(Julie), Bessemer, Mich.; eight grandchildren, James and Allison Trcka,
Sheboygan, Abbey and Maria Trcka and Breanne (Steve) Lombardo, all of Hurley,
Corey (Cacey) Trcka, Wausau, Wis., and Whitney and Karli Trcka, Bessemer; two
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Corrine) Richie, Rice lake, Wis., and
Bill Richie, Ironwood Township; a sister-in-law, Alice Marsan, Shelton, Conn.;
and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents and husband, Geri was
preceded in death by a sister in infancy; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Richie, on
July 17, 2010.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 9 a.m., at
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM,
celebrant.      Rite of Committal and interment will follow in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.      Luncheon will be served at the Iron Nugget in
downtown Hurley immediately upon return from the cemetery.      Pallbearers will be Gerard, Bill, Jim, Corey
and James Trcka, and Tom Richie.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to
