Obituary for Genevieve "Gen" Thompson
Genevieve “Gen” Thompson,84, of Mercer, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021.
Gen was born on January 10, 1937, in Winona, Minnesota to Valentine and Mary (Glisczensky) Modjeski (previously Modrzejewski).
She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Thompson on February 5, 1955, at Saint Mary’s Church in Winona, Minnesota. They made their home in Mercer, Wisconsin.
Gen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She enjoyed music, playing guitar, and singing. Gen was an avid reader and wrote poetry. She always enjoyed bingo and trips to the casino. Gen was a devout Catholic and member of the St. Isaac Jogues Church in Mercer.
Gen is survived by her children, Randy Thompson, Tim (Laurie) Thompson, Mickey Thompson and Billie (Chris) Babcock; her brother, Richard Modjeski of Winona, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Barbara (Kevin) Bach, Samantha (Shaun) Moen, Shay Thompson, Tony Thompson, Zach Thompson, Chloe Thompson, Jack Thompson, Kevin Thompson, and Zoie Babcock; her great-grandchildren, Abigail Bach, William Bach, Noah Thompson, Hudson Moen, Grayden Moen, Adalyn Moen and Royce Thompson.;and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; her daughter, Deborah; her father and mother-in-law, Gordon and Mildren (Van Gordon) Thompson; eleven brothers and sisters; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 16th at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Mercer, Wisconsin at 1:00 pm. The family will receive family and friends beginning at noon until the time of Mass.
Interment will follow at Mercer Cemetery in Mercer, Wisconsin.
A Celebration of Life will be held following at the Great Northern Banquet Hall in Mercer, Wisconsin.
