Obituary for Gail M. Nelson

Gail M. Nelson, 70, of 232 N.
Burt St., Ironwood, Mich., died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical
Center in Duluth.      The former Gail M. Finco was born Nov. 1,
1939, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna (Sertich) Finco,
attended Newport Grade School, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School
in 1957. She then was employed in office work in Chicago and Ann Arbor, Mich.
for a short time.      She was married to Reino L. Nelson on Sept.
10, 1960, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Edward
Wenzel. Together, they made their home and raised their family.      Gail was a member of Our Lady of Peace
Catholic Church in Ironwood, and was a dedicated volunteer at the St. Vincent
de Paul Store in downtown Ironwood. She enjoyed decorating her home for all
seasonal activities and was particularly fond of flowers in, and outside of, her
home. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's and extended
families' sporting events, as well as other events. Gail was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother, sister and sister-in-law. For the many who knew Gail, they
will be forever touched by her smile and strong compassion. Her husband's one
wish would be that he could have been half the man that she was a
woman.      Surviving are her husband, Reino, of 49 years,
( one month short of their 50th anniversary); a son, Michael (Sandy Kryshak),
Stevens Point, Wis.; a daughter, Lisa (Michael) Michiels, Marinette, Wis.; five
grandchildren, Nicole, Courtney and Janelle Nelson, and Carly and Calvin
Michiels; four brothers, Thomas (Dori) Finco, Lone Rock, Wis., Ben Finco (Bev),
Green Bay, Wis., Mark (LuAnn) Finco, Sobieski, Wis., and Dan (Vicky) Finco,
Erwin Township, Ironwood; two sisters, Francyne (Tom) Johnson, Grafton, Wis.,
and Ginnie (Beet) Anderson, Ironwood; a close aunt, Gertrude Newberg, Ironwood;
two sister-in-laws, Jean Niemi, Erwin Township, and Judy Pietrocatelli,
Ironwood; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Hopefully, her two faithful
companions, "Peppy" and "Mutley", will survive.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Friday, Aug. 13, at 11:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in
Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish
hall.      Private interment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood.      Relatives and friends may call in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.      Pallbearers will be Reino and Mike Nelson, and
Tom, Ben, Mark and Dan Finco.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may
be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.      To view Gail's obituary online, sign the
