Obituary for Eva Nella Ursini

Eva (DiGregorio) Ursini, 89, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was born in 1933 in the small Italian farming village of Capistrano, Italy, to Antonio and Carmela (Santini) DiGregório. Eva married James Ursini in 1957, then immigrated to the US, settling in Ironwood, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Eva passed on Friday, February 3, 2023.

Eva was educated as a seamstress in her formative years in Italy. Her husband, James, also born in Italy, came to the U.S. early in life and established himself. A friend of the family arranged the marriage, and soon after at the age of twenty-two, Eva married James in Italy. The couple had a wonderful honeymoon in Italy before sailing to the U.S. and entering Ellis Island in New York. They settled in the Ironwood area. Eva raised her seven children until they moved out of the house. Soon after, she took a job in Pence, Wisconsin, manufacturing gloves. The family then started up a local Italian restaurant named “Manny’s”, where she loved making food for people and greeting them at the door. She worked there until her retirement.

One of her great joys was watching her children and their families thrive in life. Her eyes lit up with every new grandchild, then later great-grandchild that sat on her lap. Feeding her children was her mission “Mangia, Mangia." No one was ever hungry at Grandma’s house. She had a unique way of telling it like it was, and making everyone laugh in the process. The Matriarch of a beautiful family of seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-nine great-grandchildren, she was loved by all.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband, James Ursini; her son, Nicholas Ursini; her sister, Maria (Albert) Colasacco; her brother, Sabatino (Patricia)DiGregorio; sister-in-law Rosa DiGregorio; and son-in-law, George Vokolek.

Eva survived by her children, Vincent (Andrea) Ursini, Anna Vokolek, Manny Ursini, John (Lisa) Ursini, Sherry (Steven) Wernette, Vicky (James) Stachowski, and her daughter in law, Colleen Ursini; she is also survived by her brothers, Redo (Diane) DiGregorio and Nino DiGregorio; grandchildren, Stacey (Tatchi) Anouan, Andrew (Tena) Ursini, Joseph (Ashley) Ursini, Eva (Joseph) Sanchez, George (Amanda) Vokolek, Mary Jane (Dan) Wiseman, Bradley (Gayla) Vokolek, Jerry Decena, Sheri Decena, James Ursini, Maryanne (Logan) Vemmer, Anthony Ursini, Justin (Jamie) Jarvi, Ashley Jarvi, Preston Nasi, Alexandra (Bradley) Vermurlen, Alyssa (Kyle) Handrich, Danielle (Drake) Rider, Zachary Stachowski, Nicholas Stachowski, great grandchildren, Tatchi (DK), Arianna, Noah, and Julian Anouan, Morgan and Benjamin Ursini, Ryan Hessel, Carter Buddie, Aurora Ursini, Tristen, Carmela, and Joseph Sanchez, Devon, Jakob, and David Decena, Grayson and Gavin Vokolek, Payton, Julia and Daniel Wiseman, Jaeger and Brayla Vokolek, Leighton and Nella Vemmer, Levi and Gianna Jarvi, Evelyn, Steven and Olivia Vermurlen.
