Obituary for Dwight Angelo Filippini
Dwight Angelo Filippini, 74, of Bessemer passed away at his home on Saturday, July 25, 2020, in Bessemer.
He was born on December 7, 1945, to Louis and Thea (Dryland) Filippini in Ironwood, Michigan. He attended A.D. Johnston High School and received an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology from Gogebic Community College.
Dwight married Patricia Guzzo on August 7, 1974.
He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Proud of his military service, Dwight remained involved as a member of the Bessemer VFW serving as the post quartermaster for many years and assisted with the annual Memorial Day Celebration. He also served as part of the Army National Guard following his service.
Dwight cared for his family, friends, and community. Often known as Phil, Philly, or Moose, he was always one to crack a joke and enjoy a beer. Dwight worked many years for Northern States Power; and prior to this, he worked at the City of Bessemer power plant and for the White Pine Mine.
During many of the early years of the Bessemer 4th of July, Dwight volunteered his time to help put on the celebration. He was also an active member of the Bessemer Genealogical Society and a member of the Piave Club.
During his retirement Dwight enjoyed his time in the woods at his camp, called Camp Testadura, camping at Lake Gogebic, or researching local history. He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and was an avid gun collector.
Het was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Thea Filippin; his in-laws, Frank and Rose Guzzo; and his step-son, Brian Ramme.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Patricia; son. Dustin Filippini; his grandchildren, Giana and Dominic Filippini; step-children, Tina Ramme, Monica (Ramme) Shirkey, and Greg and David Ramme; and several step-grandchildren.
A private military graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery for close family. A memorial for friends and family will be planned at a later date.
