Obituary for Dorothy Bernice Wyzlic

Dorothy Bernice Wyzlic, 90, passed away in her sleep at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center on October 25, 2021, where she had been a resident for the past six years.

She was born to Polish immigrants, Kostec and Magdalena (Mankowski) Wyzlic of Lake Avenue in Ironwood, Michigan on November 21, 1930.

She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in the class of 1948. She worked for the Ira Joseph family in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, and relocated with them to Glencoe, Illinois. She then worked as a fact-checker for World Book Encyclopedia for 30+ years. When she retired, she returned to Ironwood where she made her home with her beloved younger sister, Jean, and patient brother-in-law, Barts Tibaldo. She enjoyed healthy and happy times living with them until her declining health necessitated the move to Villa Maria.

Dorothy was a gentle spirit, always smiling and good-natured. She loved reading, going for walks, visiting with her extensive family, watching 60s and 70s sitcoms, and enjoyed telling jokes and laughing with loved ones as well.

She is survived by her younger sister, Jean, and brother-in-law Barts Tibaldo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank, Roman (Louise), Kostec (Josie), Ted (Annabelle), Stan (Hellen) as well as her sisters Mary (Peter) Carli, Florence (Louis) Haas, and Belle (Willis) Bertolino, as well as good friends, Bob Berg and Joelle Weaver.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial is planned at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Binu Joseph as celebrant on Friday, November 5th with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

Dorothy’s relatives would like to especially thank the staff of Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center for the kindness and care given to her, as she was always very appreciative of their attention to her needs, often referring to them as “her family.

The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home of Ironwood to honor Dorothy’s legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
