Obituary for Dorothy Rhoda "MacKool" Albert

The most wonderful wife,
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend has left us. Dorothy
Rhoda (MacKool) Albert died peacefully in her home Sunday, July 11, 2010,
surrounded by her loving family.      She was born June 22, 1922 in Detroit, to Anne
Nicholas and George MacKool. She was an avid sports fan, the Detroit Tigers
being the most important as she attended so many games as a child. A superb
athlete herself, she ran track in school, and excelled at swimming, tennis,
table tennis, bowling and golf. She attended Detroit schools and graduated when
she was 16. She then studied Home Economics at Michigan State College (now MSU)
before her marriage.      She became an extraordinary cook and continued
particularly with the Lebanese special dishes and bread of her heritage. There
was seldom a day when she did not have fresh Syrian bread for her family and the
many friends that frequently graced her table. She doted on her family, and she
welcomed so many children to share their home and life. Her loving heart, quick
wit, many stories, and wonderful sense of humor left all who knew her with a
smile.      Dorothy was active in the Ironwood Woman's
Club, Gogebic Country Club Women's League, and Saint Simon's Orthodox
Church.      She was preceded in death by her parents, her
sister, Ruth Thiel, her brother, George MacKool, and her son, Samuel G. Albert
Jr.      She is survived by her devoted husband of 69
years, Samuel G. Albert M.D.; her loving daughters, Susan (Keith) Warshaw and
Kathleen (Allan) Stam; grandchildren, Christina Bowers, and Elizabeth, Allan,
John, Jacob, Dorothy and Mary Stam; ten great-grandchildren; her brother, Nick
MacKool; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friend and companion, Bette
Beber.      A particular thanks is given to Sue Roberts
for the capable, compassionate nursing care that assisted her and the family in
the last few months. Also, thank you to her many friends for their friendship
and support.      Funeral services will be held Thursday, July
15, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in
Ironwood, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Hurley, officiating.      Visitation will precede the service, beginning
at 10:30 a.m.      Rite of Committal and interment will be in
Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      A light buffet will be held at the Albert home
following the cemetery rites.      To view Dorothy's obituary online, sign the
