Obituary for David F. Trudgeon

David F. Trudgeon, 85, of
Lake Rd., Ironwood Township, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in
Ironwood.      He was born July 2, 1925, in Ironwood, son of
the late Frank and Laura (Trethewey) Trudgeon, attended Ironwood schools, and
graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943. He then was employed as a
payroll clerk for Republic Steel Corp. in the Penokee Mine office in Ironwood
for ten years.      David began his career in banking at the
former Gogebic National Bank in Ironwood on May 24, 1955. Starting in the proof
and bookkeeping department, he worked as a paying, receiving and loan teller
until September, 1964, when he was transferred to the installment loan
department. During that time, he attended Northern Michigan School of Banking
and the University of Chicago Installment Credit School. He became assistant
cashier and officer of the bank in January, 1966, assistant vice president in
January, 1969, and vice president in January, 1974, retiring as vice president
from First of America Bank-Gogebic, N.A. on July 1, 1987.      During his career, Dave was a member of the
executive committee Group I, Michigan Bankers Association, and a member and past
president of the Gogebic Range Bankers Association. He was also active with the
United Way and served on the board of directors and as treasurer of the Ironwood
Chamber of Commerce. He was also the treasurer of the Gogebic County Salvation
Army Service Unit for 18 years, and was an active member of the
board.      Dave was a member of Wesley United Methodist
Church in Ironwood and served on the church auditing and finance committee for
several years. He was also a member of the American Institute of Banking. He
enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with his family.      David and the former Marie Ann "Marianne"
Borgaro were married at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood by the Rev.
Donald Porteus. They renewed their vows at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, now Our
Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Marianne preceded him in death on Dec. 2,
2003.      Surviving are four sons, Alan (Marlys),
Negaunee, Dennis (Jean), Ishpeming, Randy (Debra), Quinnesec, and David (Nancy),
Brooklyn Park, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister,
Margaret ( John R.) Kangas, Salem, Ore.; a brother-and-sister-in-law, Donald and
Darlene Borgaro, Sun City, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins.      Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded
in death by a daughter, Terri Marie, in 1967.      Funeral services will be held Saturday, March
5, at 2 p.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood, with the Rev.
Rosemary DeHut, officiating.      Committal will take place at the church, with
coffee and cake to be served in the fellowship hall immediately
following.      Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Ironwood.      Relatives and friends may call at the
church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday.      Pallbearers will be Dave's grandsons, to
include Marty, Michael, Matt, Bryan, Nathan and Eric Trudgeon.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may
be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church Window Restoration Fund, 500 E.
