Obituary for Cisera C. Salaj

Cisera C. Salaj, 99, a lifelong resident of Bessemer passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital. 

Cisera was born on October 20, 1923 in Bessemer to Albert and Rose Fillipi. She was a 1941 graduate of A.D. Johnson High School in Bessemer. Right after school Cisera went to work at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Detroit as a Rosie the Riveter until WWII ended. She was united in marriage to Leonard Salaj in 1953 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. She worked as an assistant Bessemer City clerk and was a bookkeeper for Steiger's Ace Hardware. After retirement she volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Store in Bessemer. Cisera enjoyed baking and was known for her ravioli. She was a faithful member of St. Sebastian's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Greg (Paula), Philip, David, and Lori (David) Furlott; grandchildren, Brandon, Carrie, Justin, Airanne, Melissa, Brittany and Shiann; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Brianna, Bella, Jackson, Lincoln, Sophia, and Nora.

Cisera was preceded in death by her parents, daughter; Lynn Mezzano, brothers and sisters; Louis, Angelo, Palma, Theresa and Katheren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday. June 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with a visitation preceding from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
