Obituary for Charles J. "Junior" Kapets

Charles J.
"Junior" Kapets, 84, of South Range Rd. , Ironwood,
died unexpectedly Thursday, July 21, 2011, in his home; he will be greatly
missed.
     He was born Aug. 17,
1926 , in Braddock ,
Pennsylvania , son of the
late Charles and Anna ( Kutch ) Kapets, attended
A.L.
Norrie
Grade School , and
graduated from L.L.
Wright
High School in 1944. He
then entered the U.S. Army, serving in the infantry during World War II in the
Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations, and was honorably discharged as a
technical sergeant in 1946.
     Following his discharge, Junior
returned to Ironwood where he was employed at Schult Mobile Homes as a cabinet
maker until the facility closed.  He then took a job with the public works
department for the City of Ironwood where he remained
until his retirement in 1991.
     He was a member of Our Lady of
Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and a lifetime member of the Aurora Athletic
Club.  He enjoyed pitching horseshoes for the Aurora Club in the Range Horseshoe
League. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved spending time with his
family and grandchildren.
     On Sept. 1,
1951 , he was married to the former
Genevieve L. Archambeau at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late
Rev. Frank Ronkowski. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29,
1996 .
     Surviving are two daughters,
Terry (David) VanDamme, Escanaba, and Jane (Richard) Brinkman, Grand Rapids;
three grandchildren, Sara VanDamme, Escanaba, and Richie and Genevieve Brinkman,
both of Grand Rapids; three step-grandchildren, Brad VanDamme, Gladstone, Scott
VanDamme, Escanaba, and Jaime VanDamme, DeWitt; three step-great grandchildren,
Courtney, Megan and Travis; his sister, Dolores Jacisin, Bessemer; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
     A Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated Wednesday, July 27, at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Church in
Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant
     Rite of Committal will take
place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, where full military honors
will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor
Guard. 
     Luncheon will follow in the
parish hall.
     Burial will be in
Riverside
Cemetery ,
Ironwood.
     Relatives and friends may call
in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 11
a.m. until noon on
Wednesday.
